No pictures for this post. When something funny happens to me - I usually don't have a camera with me to document the event. So you will have to take my word that this funny event really did happen to me.
It is another clothes story:
Around August here in Arizona I had to go to a Dr. appt. in Gilbert. It was about 3 pm in the afternoon - super hot and sunny. I drove our minivan at that time and decided to park in the farthest parking lot where not many cars were. This particular parking lot was really closer to the building. I had a bunch of papers with me and I grabbed them, my purse, and my keys and stepped out of the car, pushed the lock button and took about 1 step away from the car and came to a HALT! I couldn't go any further. I turned and discovered that the denim tie on my jumper was caught in the door and I could not step any further away from the car. I thought, HECK!! This is going to be difficult. A few weeks earlier, someone had stuffed something in the key hole of the driver’s door and my car key would not go in. Cliff had not been able to get it out, so instead he made me a door unlocker from a broom stick. I would go to the passenger side of the car and use the broom stick to reach across the seat and push the unlock button. It worked ok - but not this day. I knew my key would not work, but I tried and tried again to see if I could just push whatever was in there all the way thru. No luck. Now - with my stress level going up and the heat being over 100F, wearing a heavy denim jumper - I was really getting hot and sweaty.
I next decided that I would just search my purse - that big thing surely had a pair of scissors or a knife. No luck. So I decided that I would just jerk really hard on that denim tie and just pop the knot off the end that was holding me up. I jerked and jerked, pulled and pulled and that tie would not tear. I tried tearing the tie from the jumper - no luck. I was really getting hot and frustrated at this point. What to do????? I looked over at the building and notice there was an upper floor with lots of windows. Maybe I would be so lucky that someone in there would look out the window and see me and come and save me. No luck.
By this time, I had been outside that car for about 15 minutes and I was hot!!!
There was no one around for me to call - no cell phone.
I could just see the paper headlines the next day: "Woman found dead hanging from her car in the heat because of a denim tie!"
Finally I decided that the only thing I could do would be to take off my jumper and go to the other side of the car and unlock the door. I really was going to do that, but decided maybe I shouldn't because I wasn't wearing a slip. That denim jumper was heavy and thick and I didn't need a slip. BUT - if I had had a slip on - that jumper would have been stripped off in a second.
I just knew that a woman in her shirt and "undies" was not a sight to be seen. I probably would have been arrested!!
After another 5 or 10 minutes went by (seemed like eternity), I finally gave up and decided that the jumper would have to go and I would risk exposing myself. I was working up the courage to take it off when I noticed a man walking on the sidewalk next to the parking lot I was in. I hollered out: "Sir, Sir". He looked over at me and I motioned for him to come over. He started walking over and I felt such a sense of relief. When he got close by he could see the dilemma I was in, smiled and I asked him if he would take my car keys and go around and unlock the passenger door, reach across and unlock the driver door. I told him my key would not work in the driver door. He took my key and really did go over and unlocked the door and FREED ME!!! He was a hero!!!! I thanked him and I'm sure he was glad to make his escape. I must have looked scary. Hot, sweaty, relieved, scared, and frantic!!
I was so relieved that I didn't care what the situation looked like - I was so grateful to be free. I knew I would never see that man again.
I composed myself, gathered up my stuff and headed into the Dr. office. As I signed in and set down, I looked around and found that the man who helped me was sitting in the same Dr's office. Oh, how embarrassing!!
We didn't speak or even make eye contact. Thank goodness.
I could just picture that man's conversation at the dinner table that night as he explained to his family how he helped a crazy woman with a tough denim tie!!!
