This is a picture of my brother Tom & his wife Dolores and their children taken about 18 years ago.
This is a picture of Tom & Dolores in 2005. These are great people. But my sweet little sister-in-law Dolores has been very ill for a very long time.
She spent her life being a great wife and mother and enjoying life. Then she was diagnosed with diabetes and the trials became fierce. She has been such a trooper thru all she has endured. Finally she had to go on dialysis and life has not been the same for them.
We have prayed and prayed for her and her health. Even with all this, she is a trooper.
I have been amazed at how well she deals with her trials. I'm sure there have been days she had to have been discouraged - but I never saw them.
Theses health issues have affected their family and the activities they love to do. My brother has been there for her and helped her all along the way.
She was put on the transplant list last year and we have been waiting and praying for an opportunity for her to receive a kidney transplant. This month, they have endured quite a roller coaster ride. She was called about 2 weeks ago saying that they had a pancreas & kidney and could they get to Denver right away. Well - there was a blizzard going on in Wyoming. She did get out on a plane and to make a very long story short - it didn't work out and she had to come home. We were so sad!
Her brother had offered to give her one of his kidneys - WOW!! What an unselfish and loving thing to do!!! And yesterday after a "little" roller coaster bump, she received her new kidney in the afternoon.
We have prayed and prayed for this wonderful miracle to occur for her. We were nervous, excited, and on edge with our phones in our hands.
Finally the call came to alert me that the surgery went well, the Dr's were pleased and both Dolores and her brother were doing good.
I cried when I hung up the phone and was so blown away with such gratitude in my heart for the great blessing and miracle our family received.
Now - our Dolores has a chance to enjoy life like she has not known for the last few years. She will be free from dialysis and able to go and do the things they love to do.
I was again thrilled this morning when I got to talk to her on the phone. She sounded great!! And this afternoon again I called to check and she still sounded good. The Dr's are pleased and are watching carefully.
I will forever be grateful that her brother was so willing to share a kidney for her. I will forever be grateful to my Heavenly Father for this miracle. And I am so grateful that we will be able to see Dolores improve and enjoy life.
There are obstacles yet to overcome and many tests yet to have, but for today - a miracle has occurred and I want the whole world to know that I am so grateful and happy for a wonderful gal I love so much.
Dolores - you are the best and so loved. Keep improving and getting better. You have some camping and fishing to do yet.

Oh what a blessing good health is. Never will I ever not just be humbled by that blessing. I can't even imagine dealing with all life has to over with poor health added to the list. Those who have to endure long illnesses surely must be Heavenly Fathers favorites. He refines them so their eternity is a sure thing!
